There’s a lot of deserved fanfare going on at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers because it’s turning 100! Director Masha Turchinsky has injected tons of new life into one of Westchester’s leading arts institutions. The recent Maya Lin show drew record crowds. HRM is the place for art/science/history with exciting exhibits, a cool planetarium and a Gilded Age mansion – not to mention the amazing river views. Kid-friendly fun on the weekends, DJ-infused happy hours for millennials and educational workshops for all ages. Went to the fabulous Lunar New Year celebration and had a blast. We ate Korean food, made decorative masks and watched Balinese dancing while I won Sunday Funday mom of the year! Not really but in my head that sounded good. Mark your calendar for their summer amphitheater series in July and August – a slate filled with a diverse mix of dance, drama and song. Easy parking, easy train-ing from NYC – Metro North to the Glenwood stop. Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave, Yonkers
Make a day of it. Coffee and an almond croissant are just a couple of the delightful offerings at Antoinette’s in nearby Hastings-on-Hudson or go for Negronis and artisanal pizza at fam-friendly Fortina down the road in Yonkers. Both spots are win-wins for everyone! Recent Antoinette’s sightings: actress Molly Ringwald and model Coco Rocha. Meanwhile, Fortina chef/owner Christian Petroni is a recent “Food Network Star” winner. And that’s how we roll in Westchester.
