You may know my friend, the actress/playwright Maddie Corman from her teen days (Some Kind of Wonderful), her TV/film appearances (Law & Order, Swingers) and her stage performances (Next Fall, The Babylon Line).  But her best starring role IMHO is as real-life, cool mom of 3.  Full-steam working mom no less.  She’s currently making audiences laugh, cry and relate in her one-woman tour de force Accidentally Brave at the DR2 Theatre in Union Square.  It runs through the end of June and I urge you all to go.  No really.  She’s collecting accolades (Off Bway Alliance Award Winner, Outer Critics Nominee) all over the place – including support from buddies like Debra Messing, Ben Stiller and Daphne Rubin-Vega.  And if she isn’t busy enough, be sure to check her out as Lady Aberlin in the upcoming flick “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks.  She shared a few of her fav NYC spots and things to do.

After many years of living in the ‘burbs, I am happily back in my most favorite city— NYC!  I love the vibrant arts scene in this city including badass female run theatre companies like Royal Family Productions — they are always doing interesting and provocative work like “Women on Fire.”  Royal Family Productions, 145 W 46th St

I’ve lived near NYC for most of my life but until recently I had never spent time in Hamilton Heights in Harlem… there are great parks and cozy cafes and unique restaurants like Tsion Cafe which has the yummiest Ethiopian food and some incredible live jazz on the weekends… it’s family friendly AND has great cocktails (my kind of family friendly).  Tsion Cafe, 763 St Nicholas Ave

I’m working in Union Square and I love to get to the theatre early enough to wander around the Union Square farmers market and grab some fresh flowers for my dressing room; yes I give myself flowers…. That way I get the kind that I like!  Union Square Greenmarket, Union Square Park (Open Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat from 8a-6p)
