Bowie, Dylan, The Dead; they’ve all made sweet music in this place. The Capitol Theatre is historic for so many reasons – especially my youngest daughter’s performance in “The Nutcracker” of course. No wonder it’s the cultural epicenter of downtown Port Chester’s ongoing rebirth. My husband and I have had a bunch of good date nights there. The last show we saw was Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. Such a great concert. Upcoming – Gavin DeGraw, Toto (thank you Weezer) and MGMT – whose “Kids” has always been a fav of mine. Let’s not discount Garcia’s, the bar/venue inside the Cap where my friends in the local roots-rock band Greetings From Anywhere are playing this weekend. Watching live music outside of the city can be a fun and intimate experience at this iconic landmark.
You got the sitter so might as well enjoy a nice meal too. In the past, we’d eat first at Bartaco or Saltaire but I recently discovered a cute little Colombian bistro called Aqui Es Sante Fe, conveniently located around the corner from the theatre. The mojitos, empanadas and arepas are delish. I recommend it highly. They don’t stay open late so try to make time before the show. Capitol Theatre, 149 Westchester Ave; Aqui Es Santa Fe, 32 Broad St
