My husband is a great dad. My girls would agree. And even though he knows every Bruce song ever recorded, he’s not in a band. But I know 3 dads who are. And all 3 of their kickass bands are playing tomorrow (Sat Oct 19th) in the New York-area so depending on your mood and babysitting sitch, take your pick.
- Ossining – FAMILY FUN DAY: Patrick Harmon –Dad to Elliott; web designer by day; guitarist/backing vocals by night. The talented Mr. Harmon designed both my websites and is in a band called DIVINING ROD that plays awesome music best described as “Psychedelic Americana.” They hit the stage at the Big-Oss BBQ tomorrow at 3pm. Don’t be a “Big Oss.” Just head to Ossining in Westchester to see Divining Rod at this all-day, kid-friendly food/drink/music event filled with a global take on all things cooked over an open flame. Vendors include: Cravin’ Jamaican, First Village Coffee, Sing Sing Kill Brewery and much more. Big-Oss BBQ: Open 12-5:30pm, Free admission, Henry Gourdine Park, 3 Secur Road, Ossining, NY
- Queens – FAMILY NIGHT, DATE NIGHT, GIRLS NIGHT OUT: Graham Nalle –Dad to Alistair, Clara, Loewy; lawyer by day; drummer (in 3 bands!) by night. Even though Graham says he’s from Philly–I think he was born in Rio. Tomorrow he’s drumming for one of two Brazilian bands he’s in – GINGA PURA – at the Queens Night Market at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, bay-bee! It’s a huge outdoor NYC international food/music love fest with only one more weekend left. Graham and Ginga Pura go on at 9pm, so go early and sample some Antiguan ducana, Moldovan waffle rolls and Filipino lugaw among other delish offerings for sale. Queens Night Market: Open 5pm-Midnight, Free admission, NY Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St, Corona, Queens
- Dobbs Ferry – DATE NIGHT, GIRLS NIGHT OUT: Doug Schneider – Dad to Max, Gus, Leo; photographer by day; drummer (in 2 bands!) by night. Doug is a creative foodie dude whose new rockin’ venture is PARTY BOX RAIDERS and they’re playing classic rock, covers, country, blues just for you. Tomorrow’s PBR gig is at 8:45pm at the coolest, most stylish co-working space around called HudCo in Dobbs Ferry. Of course I’m a member. Did you have to ask? The event is called HudCo After Dark and features drinks/bites from The Rare Bit for purchase. It’s the perfect way to ooh and ahh over HudCo’s vibe, decor and river locale. Multi-instrumentalist Vincente Saav is the opener. HudCo After Dark: Open 7-10pm, $20 pp tickets in above link, HudCo, 145 Palisade St, Suite 200, Dobbs Ferry, NY
